Since today is apparently Crash Test Tuesday.

One of the '71 models actually does reasonably well. The rest are predictably death traps, guess which is which.

Fun Fact: The AMC Pacer was designed to withstand a proposed, but never implemented federal 50MPH crash test specification. While other manufacturers paid their lobbyists to fight the proposed rule in congress as "impossible to meet" and continued to crank out flimsy compacts, AMC did the math and determined that engineers and lots of low-quality steel were cheaper than lobbyists and lawyers and just over-designed the fuck out of the Pacer's body-shell. Hence the fact that despite it's compact dimensions the Pacer weighs in excess of 3000lbs in basic trim and upwards of 3500 with options.

Fun fact addendum: in the late 80's and early 90's many demolition derby associations outright banned Pacers from competition due to the fact that they were too goddamn tough.
